Maya Lockwood has lived in Silicon Valley for over 19 years, building trusted brands through powerful communications strategy, investor relations, and community engagement with global stakeholders. She has worked with funds ranging from $5 million to over $1 billion, partnering closely with founders, investors, and the broader ecosystem to build communications platforms, amplify voices, expand syndicates, and bring transformative technologies to market.
As the first Communications Director and Head of Investor Relations at IndieBio/SOSV, Maya played a key role alongside her team, in scaling the world’s largest biotech and deep tech accelerator. Together, they built a $9B+ portfolio of companies that helped ignite a global movement in science-led entrepreneurship. Maya supported over 250 scientist-turned-founders from idea to market, advising them on capital raising, storytelling, and strategic positioning. These efforts contributed to IndieBio/SOSV’s growth from managing a $250M fund to more than $1.2B, and supported its expansion with the launch of IndieBio New York.
Her desk at IndieBio was located beside a 7,000 sq. ft. BSL-2 lab and a 3D organ-printing machine—giving her a front-row seat to scientific innovation, emerging technologies, and the operational realities of early-stage startups. Over the years, she reviewed thousands of investment applications and supported more than 200 portfolio companies in developing communication strategies, navigating fundraising challenges, conducting due diligence, and bringing revolutionary ideas to market.
